Step by step instructions, muscle activation and variants for the Plank Side Kick-Through.

MediumCoreObliques

About this exercise

The Plank Side Kick-Through is a dynamic bodyweight movement that combines a high plank with a rotational kick, challenging the core, obliques, and hip mobility simultaneously. From a raised plank position, you lift one hand and thread the opposite leg under your body and out to the side in a fluid sweeping motion. The exercise builds rotational strength and coordination while keeping the core continuously engaged.

How to Perform

  • Begin in a high plank with hands under shoulders, toes on the floor, and hips level
  • Lift your right hand off the floor and simultaneously rotate your hips to the left
  • Thread your right leg under your body, kicking it out to the left side with the hip near the floor
  • Hold briefly at the end range, then reverse the motion to return to the starting plank position
  • Repeat on the opposite side, lifting the left hand and kicking the left leg through
  • Alternate sides for the desired number of repetitions
