About this exercise

The Plank Shoulder Tap is a bodyweight core stability exercise performed in a high plank position, alternately tapping each shoulder with the opposite hand. The challenge lies in resisting rotational forces and hip sway as you momentarily support your weight on one arm.

How to Perform

  • Start in a high plank position with hands directly below your shoulders and body in a straight line
  • Brace your core and squeeze your glutes to stabilize your hips
  • Lift your right hand off the floor and tap your left shoulder
  • Return your right hand to the floor before lifting your left hand
  • Tap your right shoulder with your left hand and return to the starting position
  • Keep your hips level and avoid rotating or swaying side to side
  • Continue alternating sides for the desired number of reps
