About this exercise

The prone plank plate switch is a dynamic core stability exercise performed in a high plank position. You slide a weight plate from one hand to the other across the floor, challenging the core to resist lateral shift and rotation while maintaining a rigid plank.

How to Perform

  • Place a weight plate on the floor and assume a high plank position with the plate just outside one hand
  • Brace your core, keep your hips level, and your body in a straight line from head to heels
  • Reach across with the opposite hand, grasp the plate, and slide it to the other side
  • Return your hand to the floor immediately to restore the plank position
  • Alternate the reaching hand each rep, keeping hips as still as possible
  • Breathe steadily and avoid letting your hips rotate or sag throughout the set
