Step by step instructions, muscle activation and variants for the Plank Hands Tap Feet Tap.

MediumAbsCore

About this exercise

An advanced plank variation that adds alternating shoulder taps and foot taps to a standard high plank, demanding exceptional core stability and anti-rotation control. The compound movement pattern challenges the abs, obliques, and shoulder stabilisers while keeping the hips as level as possible.

How to Perform

  • Set up in a high plank position with your hands directly under your shoulders, body in a straight line from head to heels
  • Brace your core, glutes, and quads to prevent any hip rotation or sagging
  • Lift your right hand and tap your left shoulder, then replace the hand on the floor
  • Simultaneously or alternately, jump or step your feet wide apart, then tap them back together
  • Lift your left hand and tap your right shoulder, then replace it
  • Continue alternating shoulder taps and foot taps in a controlled rhythm
  • Minimise hip movement throughout — the goal is to keep your pelvis square to the floor
  • Complete the desired number of reps on each side
