About this exercise

A shoulder-mobility drill performed by gripping a towel with both hands wide apart and repeatedly passing it from in front of the body to behind the back in one smooth arc. The wide grip and flexible towel allow even those with limited shoulder mobility to work through a full overhead rotation, making it an excellent warm-up or corrective exercise.

How to Perform

  • Stand tall with your feet shoulder-width apart and hold a towel with both hands using a wide overhand grip
  • Begin with the towel held in front of your thighs, arms straight
  • Keeping your elbows straight, raise the towel in a wide arc up and over your head
  • Continue the arc, bringing the towel behind your body until it rests at your lower back
  • Reverse the motion, bringing the towel back over your head and returning to the starting position in front of your thighs
  • Move slowly and under control, adjusting your grip width if you feel excessive tension in the shoulders
  • Repeat for the desired number of repetitions
