About this exercise

The parallel bars bent knee inverted row is a bodyweight horizontal pulling exercise performed underneath parallel bars with knees bent to reduce the load. It builds back thickness and pulling strength in a beginner-friendly position.

How to Perform

  • Set the parallel bars at a height that allows your arms to be fully extended when you lie underneath
  • Position yourself under the bars with your knees bent and feet flat on the floor
  • Grip the bars with an overhand grip, shoulder-width apart, and hang with straight arms
  • Brace your core and keep your body in a straight line from knees to shoulders
  • Pull your chest up toward the bars by driving your elbows back
  • Pause briefly at the top when your chest nearly touches the bars
  • Lower yourself with control back to the starting position
