About this exercise

The opposite arm raise against a wall is a hip stability and core control exercise performed while leaning against a wall for support. Raising the arm on the opposite side to the supported hip challenges anti-lateral-flexion strength and trains balanced hip extension mechanics.

How to Perform

  • Stand sideways next to a wall and place one hand on it at waist height for support
  • Shift your weight onto the leg closer to the wall and keep a slight bend in that knee
  • Brace your core and keep your hips level as you lift the arm on the opposite side straight up
  • Raise that arm to shoulder height or slightly above, maintaining an upright torso
  • Hold briefly at the top, then lower the arm back in a controlled manner
  • Complete all reps on one side before switching to the other side
