About this exercise

A simple unilateral bodyweight calf raise performed standing on the floor on one leg at a time. Training each leg independently corrects strength imbalances and increases the demand on balance and ankle stability compared to the two-legged version.

How to Perform

  • Stand upright near a wall or sturdy surface for balance support and shift all weight onto one foot
  • Lift the opposite foot slightly off the ground by bending that knee
  • Rise as high as possible onto the ball and toes of the working foot
  • Pause briefly at the top, squeezing the calf
  • Lower your heel back to the floor with control
  • Complete all reps on one side before switching legs
