EasyGlutesQuadriceps

About this exercise

A demanding unilateral squat performed standing on a bench: one leg supports the whole body while the other hangs free beside the bench, and you squat down on the supporting leg with the arms extended forward for balance. It builds single-leg strength in the quads and glutes and challenges balance through a large range of motion.

How to Perform

  • Stand on a bench on one leg with the other foot hanging off the side
  • Extend your arms forward for counterbalance
  • Bend the supporting knee and sit your hips back, lowering as far as you can control
  • Let the free leg reach down beside the bench
  • Drive through the heel to stand back up
  • Complete the repetitions, then switch legs
