About this exercise

The dumbbell front raise is a shoulder isolation exercise targeting the anterior (front) deltoid. Standing with a dumbbell in each hand, you raise both arms forward to shoulder height, then lower them with control. This movement builds strength and definition in the front of the shoulders.

How to Perform

  • Stand upright holding a dumbbell in each hand with a pronated (overhand) grip, arms hanging in front of your thighs
  • Keep a slight bend in your elbows and brace your core
  • Raise both dumbbells forward and upward until your arms are parallel to the floor (shoulder height)
  • Pause briefly at the top
  • Lower the dumbbells back down slowly and with control
  • Repeat for the desired number of reps
