About this exercise

The oblique V-up is a bodyweight lateral core exercise performed on the floor. Lying on your side, you simultaneously lift your legs and torso toward each other to form a V shape, placing intense demand on the obliques and the lateral stabilisers of the trunk.

How to Perform

  • Lie on your side on the floor with your body in a straight line, legs stacked
  • Place your lower arm on the floor for support or extend it overhead for added difficulty
  • Rest your upper hand lightly on your head or extend it toward your feet
  • In one controlled movement, raise both legs and your upper body off the floor, crunching laterally
  • Squeeze the obliques at the top of the movement
  • Slowly lower your legs and torso back to the floor with control
  • Complete all reps on one side before switching
