About this exercise

Oblique crunches with a straight leg lift combine a side crunch with a simultaneous leg raise, targeting the obliques and lower abs in a single coordinated movement. Lying on your back, you curl one shoulder toward the opposite hip while lifting the straight leg on the same side.

How to Perform

  • Lie on your back with legs straight and hands lightly behind your head
  • Raise one straight leg to about 45 degrees while simultaneously crunching your opposite shoulder toward that raised leg
  • Squeeze your obliques at the top of the movement
  • Lower your leg and torso back to the starting position in a controlled manner
  • Perform all reps on one side, then switch, or alternate sides each rep
