MediumBiceps

About this exercise

The negative leg concentration curl is a unilateral biceps exercise that emphasizes the slow eccentric (lowering) phase of the curl. Seated with your elbow braced against the inside of your thigh, you use your free hand or leg to assist the curl upward, then lower the dumbbell with full control over several seconds to maximally load the biceps.

How to Perform

  • Sit on the edge of a bench and hold a dumbbell in one hand with your arm hanging between your legs
  • Brace the back of your working upper arm against the inside of the same-side thigh
  • Use your free hand or thigh to help raise the dumbbell to the top position
  • Remove the assistance at the top and slowly lower the dumbbell over 3–5 seconds
  • Keep the upper arm fixed against the leg throughout the descent
  • Stop just before full elbow extension and repeat for the desired reps
