Narrow Lunge (Wall Supported)

Step by step instructions, muscle activation and variants for the Narrow Lunge (Wall Supported).

EasyQuadriceps

About this exercise

A lunge variation performed with feet positioned closer together than usual and one hand resting lightly against a wall for balance support. The narrow stance increases quad demand and helps beginners or those with balance challenges focus on proper lunge mechanics without compensating.

How to Perform

  • Stand beside a wall and place one hand lightly on it for support
  • Position your feet narrower than a standard lunge stance, roughly hip-width or closer
  • Step forward with one foot, keeping the feet on a narrow track
  • Lower your back knee toward the floor while keeping your torso upright
  • Drive through the front heel to return to the starting position
  • Complete all reps on one side, then switch legs
  • Use the wall only for balance — avoid leaning your weight into it
