About this exercise

An upright variation of the mountain climber performed with hands placed flat against a wall at a forward lean angle. This accessible exercise trains the core, hip flexors, and cardiovascular system with reduced wrist and shoulder strain compared to the floor version.

How to Perform

  • Stand facing a wall and place both hands flat on it at roughly chest height, arms extended
  • Walk your feet back until your body forms a diagonal line from head to heels
  • Brace your core and keep your hips level
  • Drive one knee up toward your chest, then return the foot and immediately drive the opposite knee up
  • Alternate legs rapidly in a running motion for the prescribed duration
  • Breathe steadily and keep your lower back from sagging throughout
