About this exercise

The medicine ball step behind rotational throw is a power-based plyometric drill that trains rotational force production by stepping one foot behind the other and explosively rotating the torso to throw the ball. It develops core rotational power, hip drive, and total-body coordination useful for athletic performance.

How to Perform

  • Stand sideways to a wall or partner, holding a medicine ball at hip height
  • Step your rear foot behind and across your front foot to load the hips
  • Rotate your hips and torso explosively toward the target, driving through the legs
  • Extend your arms and release the ball with full rotational force
  • Follow through with your upper body, letting your back heel come off the ground
  • Retrieve the ball, reset your stance, and repeat for the desired reps on one side before switching
