About this exercise

The medicine ball rotary throw is a rotational power exercise that trains the obliques and core through an explosive twisting throw. It develops rotational speed and strength useful for sports and functional movements.

How to Perform

  • Stand sideways to a wall or partner, feet shoulder-width apart, holding a medicine ball at hip level
  • Load your weight onto the back foot and coil your torso away from the target
  • Explosively rotate your hips and torso toward the target, transferring weight to your front foot
  • Release the ball with both hands at chest height, letting the rotation drive the throw
  • Catch the rebound or retrieve the ball, reset your stance, and repeat
