About this exercise

The medicine ball goblet squat is a squat variation where a medicine ball is held at chest height, counterbalancing the torso and encouraging an upright posture. It is an excellent movement for developing lower body strength, improving squat mechanics, and building core stability simultaneously.

How to Perform

  • Stand with feet shoulder-width apart, toes angled slightly outward
  • Hold a medicine ball with both hands at chest height, elbows pointing down
  • Brace your core and keep your chest tall throughout the movement
  • Push your knees out in line with your toes as you descend into the squat
  • Lower yourself until your thighs are at least parallel to the floor
  • Drive through your heels to return to the standing position
  • Squeeze your glutes at the top of each rep
