About this exercise

A weighted abdominal crunch performed with the lower back arched over a stability ball and a medicine ball held at the chest or overhead. The stability ball allows a greater range of motion than a floor crunch, while the added medicine ball weight increases the challenge to the rectus abdominis.

How to Perform

  • Sit on a stability ball with your feet flat on the floor, hip-width apart
  • Walk your feet forward and roll down until the ball sits under your lower back, with your torso parallel to the floor
  • Hold the medicine ball at your chest or extend it overhead for greater difficulty
  • Engage your core and curl your upper body upward, lifting your shoulders off the ball
  • Keep the ball steady under your lower back and avoid letting the stability ball roll
  • Squeeze your abs at the top of the movement
  • Slowly lower your upper body back over the ball to the starting position
  • Repeat for the desired number of repetitions
