About this exercise

The standing calf raise on a machine targets the calf muscles, building strength and size in the lower legs. The machine loads the shoulders so you can drive through a full range of motion at the ankles.

How to Perform

  • Step under the shoulder pads with the balls of your feet on the platform and your heels hanging off
  • Stand up to lift the weight and straighten your legs
  • Lower your heels as far as comfortable to stretch your calves
  • Press up onto your toes as high as possible
  • Squeeze your calves at the top of the movement
  • Slowly lower back down under control
  • Repeat for the desired number of reps
