About this exercise

The machine seated fly, commonly performed on a pec deck, is an isolation exercise that targets the chest through a wide arc of horizontal adduction. The machine guides the movement path, letting you focus entirely on squeezing the pectorals without stabilising a free weight.

How to Perform

  • Sit on the pec deck machine and adjust the seat height so the handles are aligned with your mid-chest
  • Grip the handles with your palms facing inward and your elbows slightly bent
  • Keep your back flat against the pad and your chest up throughout the movement
  • Bring the handles together in front of your chest in a smooth, controlled arc
  • Squeeze your pectoral muscles hard at the point of full contraction
  • Slowly return to the starting position, allowing a comfortable stretch in the chest at the end of the range
  • Repeat for the desired number of repetitions

About the Pec Deck Fly

The Pec Deck Fly is a foundational movement that builds strength and muscle through controlled, progressive overload. Train it 1 to 2 times per week with 3 to 5 working sets per session, gradually adding weight or reps as form holds up.
