About this exercise

The Lying Single Leg Raise is a core floor exercise performed on your back, where you lift one straight leg at a time toward vertical while keeping the other leg low. It targets the lower abdominals and hip flexors with minimal spinal strain.

How to Perform

  • Lie flat on your back on a mat with legs extended and arms resting at your sides
  • Press your lower back gently into the mat and engage your core
  • Keeping the left leg straight and hovering just above the floor, raise your right leg up to about 90 degrees
  • Hold briefly at the top, feeling the lower abdominal contraction
  • Slowly lower the right leg back toward the floor without letting it rest
  • Repeat the movement with your left leg
  • Alternate sides for the desired number of repetitions per leg
