About this exercise

The lying prone Y raise is a bodyweight exercise performed face-down on the floor where both arms are raised diagonally overhead to form a Y shape. It targets the lower trapezius and rear deltoids, helping to improve shoulder stability and upper back posture.

How to Perform

  • Lie face down on the floor with your arms extended overhead at a diagonal, thumbs pointing up, forming a Y shape with your body
  • Keep your core braced and your forehead resting lightly on the floor or slightly raised
  • Exhale and raise both arms as high as comfortably possible, squeezing the shoulder blades together and downward
  • Hold briefly at the top
  • Lower your arms in a controlled manner back to the starting position
  • Repeat for the desired number of repetitions
