About this exercise

The lying obliques scissors is a bodyweight floor exercise that targets the obliques through a controlled scissoring leg motion. Keeping the lower back pressed to the floor, you drive rotation and anti-rotation at the waist while the legs move in a scissors pattern.

How to Perform

  • Lie flat on your back with your legs extended and your hands placed beneath your lower back for support
  • Lift both legs a few inches off the floor, keeping them straight
  • Cross your right leg over your left in a scissors motion, then alternate
  • Continue alternating the crossing pattern with a controlled rhythm
  • Keep your core braced and lower back pressed firmly to the floor throughout
  • Return both legs to the starting position to complete the set
