About this exercise

The lying leg and hip raise is a bodyweight core exercise performed on the floor that trains the lower abs by lifting both the legs and hips off the ground simultaneously. It develops lower abdominal strength and hip flexor control.

How to Perform

  • Lie flat on your back with legs extended and arms at your sides or under your lower back for support
  • Keep your legs straight and raise them to a vertical position
  • From there, press your lower back into the floor and lift your hips off the ground, curling them toward your chest
  • Slowly lower your hips back down, then lower your legs in a controlled manner
  • Stop just before your heels touch the floor and repeat
