About this exercise

A bodyweight ab exercise performed lying on your back with the knees dropped out to the sides and the soles of the feet pressed together in a frog position. Crunching upward from this position intensifies the contraction of the rectus abdominis while reducing hip-flexor involvement.

How to Perform

  • Lie flat on your back on the floor and press the soles of your feet together, allowing your knees to fall out to the sides in a frog position
  • Place your hands lightly behind your head or cross them over your chest
  • Engage your core and curl your upper back off the floor, bringing your ribcage toward your pelvis
  • Pause at the top of the movement and squeeze your abs
  • Slowly lower your upper back back to the floor under control
