EasyLower back

About this exercise

A lower back strengthening exercise performed face down on the floor, using a towel held by a partner or anchored underfoot to provide resistance as you lift your upper body. The added resistance increases the challenge to the erector spinae and glutes compared to the unloaded version.

How to Perform

  • Lie face down on the floor with a partner standing at your feet, or anchor the towel under your feet
  • Loop the towel around the back of your neck or hold the ends at your shoulders
  • Keep your legs flat on the floor and your core braced
  • Lift your chest off the floor by contracting your lower back against the towel resistance
  • Raise as high as a comfortable range of motion allows
  • Slowly lower your chest back to the floor in a controlled manner
  • Repeat for the desired number of repetitions
