About this exercise

The Lying Crunch with Leg Abduction combines an abdominal crunch with a simultaneous outward leg opening. While reaching your hands through your legs in the crunch, you spread your legs apart, creating a dual demand on the abs, obliques, and outer thighs in one coordinated movement.

How to Perform

  • Lie on your back with your knees bent and feet together, hovering a few inches above the floor
  • Place your hands between your thighs, palms facing inward
  • Simultaneously crunch your upper body forward while spreading your knees apart and reaching your hands through the gap
  • Squeeze your abs at the top of the crunch
  • Lower your upper body and bring your legs back together in a controlled manner
  • Keep your lower back pressed gently toward the floor throughout
  • Repeat for the desired number of reps
