About this exercise

A shoulder and chest exercise performed lying on the floor or a flat bench, where dumbbells are swept in a wide circular arc from the hips, out to the sides, and up overhead, engaging the entire shoulder girdle and upper chest through a full range of motion.

How to Perform

  • Lie flat on your back on the floor or a bench, holding a dumbbell in each hand at your sides with palms facing in
  • Keep a slight bend in your elbows throughout the movement
  • Sweep both dumbbells outward and upward in a wide arc, moving them along the floor or through the air
  • Continue the arc until the dumbbells meet above your chest or overhead
  • Reverse the motion, sweeping the dumbbells back down and out along the same arc
  • Return to the starting position with the dumbbells at your sides
  • Repeat for the desired number of repetitions
