About this exercise

The Lying Alternate Leg Extension is a bodyweight floor exercise that targets the quadriceps and challenges core stability. Lying on your back, you alternately extend one leg at a time while keeping the other bent, demanding controlled hip flexor and quad engagement throughout.

How to Perform

  • Lie flat on your back with both knees bent and feet flat on the floor
  • Place your hands lightly at your sides or under your lower back for support
  • Engage your core to stabilize your lower back against the floor
  • Slowly extend one leg out straight, keeping it just above floor level
  • Hold for a moment, then return that leg to the bent position
  • Extend the opposite leg in the same controlled manner
  • Continue alternating legs for the desired number of repetitions per side
