Step by step instructions, muscle activation and variants for the Flutter Kicks.

EasyAbsCore

About this exercise

A supine core exercise where you alternate small rapid up-and-down kicks with straight legs while keeping the lower back pressed into the floor. It builds endurance in the deep abdominals and hip flexors while also engaging the glutes and hamstrings.

How to Perform

  • Lie flat on your back with legs straight and arms extended alongside your body, palms facing down
  • Press your lower back firmly into the floor and engage your core
  • Lift both legs a few inches off the ground
  • Alternate kicking each leg up and down in small, rapid, controlled motions
  • Keep the legs straight and the movement coming from the hips, not the knees
  • Breathe steadily and maintain a neutral spine throughout
  • Continue for the target duration without letting your lower back arch off the floor

About the Flutter Kicks

The Flutter Kicks is a foundational movement that builds strength and muscle through controlled, progressive overload. Train it 1 to 2 times per week with 3 to 5 working sets per session, gradually adding weight or reps as form holds up.
