About this exercise

A prone bodyweight exercise where you alternately lift opposite arm and leg while lying face down on the floor. The movement targets the lower back extensors and glutes while the opposite limbs work to stabilise the body, making it an effective rehabilitation and functional-strength drill.

How to Perform

  • Lie face down on the floor with your arms extended straight overhead and your legs together
  • Keep your head in a neutral position, looking at the floor
  • Simultaneously lift your right arm and left leg off the floor as high as comfortable, squeezing your glutes and lower back
  • Hold briefly at the top, then lower both limbs back to the floor in a controlled manner
  • Repeat on the opposite side, lifting your left arm and right leg
  • Continue alternating sides for the desired number of reps
