About this exercise

A machine-based standing glute kickback that isolates the glutes and hamstrings by extending one leg rearward against resistance. Performed unilaterally, it helps build glute strength and improve hip extension mechanics.

How to Perform

  • Stand at the machine and position the ankle pad or lever attachment against the back of your working leg's ankle or lower calf
  • Hold the support handles lightly and lean your torso slightly forward for balance
  • Brace your core and keep your standing leg slightly bent
  • Kick the working leg rearward in a controlled arc, extending the hip fully and squeezing the glute at the top
  • Avoid rotating your hips or arching the lower back to compensate — keep the movement clean
  • Lower the leg back to the start with control and complete all reps before switching sides
