Lever Squat (plate loaded, standing)

Step by step instructions, muscle activation and variants for the Lever Squat (plate loaded, standing).

MediumQuadriceps

About this exercise

The plate-loaded lever squat uses a pivoting lever machine to guide you through a squat pattern while keeping constant tension on the quadriceps. The fixed arc of movement reduces lower-back stress compared to a free barbell squat while still allowing heavy loading of the thighs and glutes.

How to Perform

  • Load the desired weight plates onto the lever machine and adjust the shoulder pads to fit your height
  • Step onto the platform, position your feet shoulder-width apart, and place your shoulders under the pads
  • Unhook the safety handles and stand tall with your chest up and core braced
  • Push your hips back slightly and bend your knees, lowering until your thighs are at least parallel to the platform
  • Drive through your heels to extend your legs and return to the starting position
  • Re-engage the safety handles at the top of your final rep
