About this exercise

A machine rear delt fly performed unilaterally from a side-seated position, isolating the posterior deltoid and upper back. Sitting sideways on the rear delt machine allows a greater range of motion and improved leverage for single-arm work compared to the standard bilateral setup.

How to Perform

  • Sit sideways on the rear delt machine so the working arm aligns with the pad or handle at chest height
  • Grasp the handle with a neutral grip and allow your arm to travel forward to the starting position
  • Keeping a slight bend in your elbow, sweep your arm back and outward in a wide arc
  • Squeeze the rear deltoid at peak contraction and hold briefly
  • Slowly return your arm to the starting position with full control
  • Complete all reps on one side before repositioning for the other arm
