About this exercise

The lever seated wide-grip lat pulldown uses a lat pulldown machine with a wide overhand grip to target the outer latissimus dorsi muscles. The wide hand position emphasizes the outer lats and creates a broad V-taper appearance in the back, while the biceps and rear deltoids provide important secondary support.

How to Perform

  • Sit at the lat pulldown machine and adjust the thigh pad to secure your legs
  • Grip the bar with both hands wider than shoulder-width in an overhand (pronated) grip
  • Lean back slightly and brace your core
  • Pull the bar down toward your upper chest, driving your elbows down and back
  • Squeeze your lats at the bottom of the movement
  • Slowly extend your arms to return the bar to the starting position under control
  • Repeat for the desired number of reps
