About this exercise

The lever seated single arm shoulder press uses a plate-loaded or selectorized shoulder press machine to target each shoulder independently. Training one arm at a time allows greater focus on the pressing shoulder and helps even out strength imbalances between sides.

How to Perform

  • Adjust the seat height so the handle is at roughly shoulder level when seated
  • Sit upright and grip the handle with one hand, elbow bent at approximately 90 degrees
  • Press the handle overhead until your arm is nearly fully extended
  • Pause briefly at the top, then lower the handle with control back to the starting position
  • Complete all reps on one side before switching to the other arm
