About this exercise

The lever seated reverse fly with a parallel grip is a machine exercise that isolates the rear deltoids and upper back muscles through a horizontal abduction movement. Using a parallel (neutral) grip reduces wrist strain and shifts emphasis toward the posterior deltoids and rhomboids.

How to Perform

  • Sit facing the machine pad and adjust the seat height so the handles are at roughly shoulder level
  • Grip the handles with a parallel (neutral) grip and lean slightly forward, keeping your back flat
  • Brace your core and keep your chest up throughout the movement
  • Pull the handles outward and back in a wide arc, leading with your elbows, squeezing your rear deltoids and upper back
  • Hold briefly at the peak contraction with your arms extended to the sides
  • Slowly return to the starting position under control
  • Repeat for the desired number of repetitions
