About this exercise

The lever seated crunch uses an ab crunch machine to provide guided resistance through spinal flexion, isolating the rectus abdominis with consistent tension throughout the range of motion. The machine's lever arm makes it easy to adjust load and control the movement, making it suitable for all fitness levels targeting core development.

How to Perform

  • Adjust the seat height so the pivot point of the machine aligns with your mid-torso
  • Sit down and secure your feet under the foot pads; grip the handles at shoulder level
  • Sit tall with a neutral spine as the starting position
  • Exhale and crunch forward by flexing your spine, bringing your chest toward your knees
  • Squeeze your abs at the bottom of the movement
  • Inhale and return to the upright starting position under control
  • Do not use momentum — control both the concentric and eccentric phases
  • Repeat for the desired number of repetitions
