About this exercise

A machine-based abdominal exercise performed in a seated position with the hands pressing against a chest pad, isolating the rectus abdominis through a controlled crunch motion. This variation places the hands on the pad rather than gripping handles, altering the lever arm and increasing the focus on abdominal contraction.

How to Perform

  • Adjust the machine seat so the pivot aligns roughly with your mid-torso
  • Sit upright and place both hands flat on the chest pad in front of you
  • Secure your feet under the foot rollers and brace your core
  • Exhale and crunch forward by flexing your spine, pressing the pad downward and bringing your chest toward your knees
  • Pause at the bottom of the movement and squeeze your abs
  • Slowly return to the upright starting position while inhaling, keeping tension on the abs
  • Repeat for the desired number of repetitions
