About this exercise

A seated calf exercise performed on a leg press machine by placing only the toes and balls of the feet on the lower edge of the footplate and pressing through the calves. The seated position keeps the soleus under constant tension throughout the full range of motion.

How to Perform

  • Sit in the leg press machine and extend your legs to straighten the sled
  • Place only your toes and balls of your feet on the very bottom edge of the footplate, with heels hanging off
  • Allow your heels to drop as far as possible to achieve a deep calf stretch
  • Press through your toes to raise your heels as high as possible, contracting the calves at the top
  • Hold the peak contraction for one second
  • Slowly lower your heels back to the stretched position
