About this exercise

A machine-based squat variation performed on a vertical hack squat machine with the body facing toward the pad (reverse position). This orientation shifts more emphasis onto the glutes and hamstrings compared to the standard forward-facing hack squat, while still heavily loading the quadriceps.

How to Perform

  • Load the hack squat machine to the desired weight and adjust the shoulder pads
  • Face the machine and position your chest against the pad, placing your feet on the platform shoulder-width apart
  • Unrack the weight by extending your legs and releasing the safety handles
  • Inhale and lower yourself by bending your knees until your thighs are at or past parallel to the platform
  • Drive through your feet to press back up to the starting position, extending your hips and knees
  • Keep your chest pressed firmly against the pad throughout the movement
  • Re-rack the safety handles upon completing all repetitions
