Lever Preacher Curl (Iso-Lateral)

Step by step instructions, muscle activation and variants for the Lever Preacher Curl (Iso-Lateral).

MediumBiceps

About this exercise

The plate-loaded lever preacher curl uses a dedicated preacher curl machine with weight plates to isolate the biceps. The angled preacher pad locks the upper arms in place, eliminating momentum and cheating, which places intense focus on the biceps throughout the full range of motion.

How to Perform

  • Load the appropriate weight plates onto the machine and adjust the seat height so your upper arms rest flat against the angled pad
  • Grasp the handles with an underhand (supinated) grip
  • Start with your arms nearly fully extended at the bottom of the movement
  • Curl the handles upward by flexing your elbows until your biceps are fully contracted
  • Squeeze at the top of the movement, then slowly lower to the starting position
  • Avoid dropping the weight rapidly at the bottom — control the descent fully
  • Repeat for the desired number of repetitions
