About this exercise

A plate-loaded machine exercise that targets the latissimus dorsi and mid-back through a unilateral low-rowing movement. Performing one arm at a time allows for a fuller range of motion and helps correct muscular imbalances between sides.

How to Perform

  • Sit at the plate-loaded low row machine and position yourself so the chest pad is at upper chest height
  • Grasp the single handle with one hand using a neutral or underhand grip
  • Retract your shoulder blade and pull the handle toward your lower abdomen
  • Squeeze your lat and hold briefly at peak contraction
  • Slowly extend your arm back to the starting position with full control
  • Complete all reps on one side before switching to the other arm
