About this exercise

A unilateral plate-loaded machine exercise targeting the latissimus dorsi through a wide lateral pulldown arc. Performed on a Hammer Strength or similar lever machine, this movement allows independent training of each side of the back to address muscle imbalances.

How to Perform

  • Select the appropriate plate load and sit at the lever pulldown machine
  • Grasp the single handle with one hand using a wide overhand grip, arm fully extended overhead
  • Brace your core and stabilize your torso against the pad
  • Pull the handle down and toward your hip in a sweeping arc, driving your elbow toward your side
  • Squeeze the lat at the bottom of the movement
  • Slowly return the handle to the fully extended starting position under control
  • Complete all reps on one side before switching
