About this exercise

The machine lying single leg curl is a unilateral hamstring isolation exercise performed face-down on a leg curl machine. Working one leg at a time allows you to identify and address strength asymmetries, and the prone position stretches the hip flexors while maximally loading the hamstring through its full range of motion.

How to Perform

  • Lie face-down on the leg curl machine and position one leg under the ankle roller, aligned with the machine's pivot point
  • Keep the other leg resting flat on the pad or slightly to the side
  • Grip the handles at the front of the machine and keep your hips pressed firmly against the bench
  • Curl the working leg upward until the ankle roller reaches close to the glutes, squeezing the hamstring at the top
  • Lower the weight slowly back to the starting position under control
  • Complete all reps on one leg before switching sides
