About this exercise

The lever linear hack squat is a machine-based compound leg exercise that targets the quadriceps through a guided linear sled motion. By positioning the feet forward on the platform, it reduces lower back stress compared to free-weight squats while allowing heavy loading of the thighs.

How to Perform

  • Position yourself on the hack squat machine with shoulders under the pads and feet flat on the platform at shoulder-width
  • Release the safety handles and lower the sled by bending your knees until your thighs reach parallel or below
  • Press through your heels and mid-foot to drive the sled back up to the starting position
  • Keep your back flat against the pad throughout the movement
  • Re-engage the safety handles after completing your set
