About this exercise

A quadriceps isolation exercise performed on a plate-loaded lever leg extension machine. Loading plates instead of a weight stack allows for precise weight increments and is common in powerlifting-focused gyms.

How to Perform

  • Load the desired weight plates onto the machine's sleeve and secure them with a collar
  • Sit on the machine and position your shins behind the lower pad, adjusting the pad height so it rests just above your ankles
  • Grip the handles on the sides of the seat for stability
  • Brace your core and keep your back flat against the backrest
  • Extend your legs upward until they are fully straight, squeezing your quadriceps at the top
  • Pause briefly at the top, then slowly lower the pad back to the starting position
  • Repeat for the desired number of repetitions
