About this exercise

The lever leg extension is a machine-based isolation exercise that targets the quadriceps muscles of the front thigh. Performed on a leg extension machine, it allows you to fully extend the knee against resistance for focused quad development with minimal involvement from surrounding muscle groups.

How to Perform

  • Sit on the leg extension machine and adjust the seat back and ankle pad so your knees are aligned with the machine's pivot point
  • Position your feet behind the ankle pad with your thighs flat on the seat
  • Grip the side handles for stability and keep your back pressed against the backrest
  • Exhale and extend your legs fully, lifting the weight until your knees are straight and your quadriceps are fully contracted
  • Hold the contraction briefly at the top of the movement
  • Slowly lower the weight back to the starting position under control
  • Repeat for the desired number of repetitions
