Lever Lateral Raise (Plate Loaded)

Step by step instructions, muscle activation and variants for the Lever Lateral Raise (Plate Loaded).

About this exercise

The lever lateral raise machine isolates the medial deltoid through a guided, plate-loaded arc of motion. Using a machine removes the stability demands of free-weight lateral raises, enabling strict technique and consistent tension on the side deltoid across the full range. It is commonly found in plate-loaded Hammer Strength-style equipment lineups.

How to Perform

  • Load the appropriate weight plates onto the machine
  • Position yourself in the machine and grip the handles with your arms at your sides
  • Raise both arms out to the sides in a smooth, controlled arc until they reach shoulder height
  • Pause briefly at the top to maximize tension on the medial deltoid
  • Lower your arms back down slowly under control
  • Repeat for the target number of repetitions
